The award was presented on the 11th of November at the gala held in the Wojciech Lutosławski Concert Studio of the Polish Radio in Warsaw. The Coryphaeus has been awarded for the last 5 years by an Electoral College which consists of deans of music academies and universities, the directors of musicology institutes, music journalists and personalities from the music industry as well as the winners of the previous editions. The whole initiative is coordinated by the Institute of Music and Dance.

In last year’s edition of the Coryphaeus the category of Personality of the Year was won by Włodek Pawilk, who also won a Grammy that same year. The earlier editions were won by such musicians like Piotr Beczałka (2013) and Zygmunt Krauze (2012).

The winner of this year’s edition – Paweł Mykietyn – composed pieces for the Polish National Opera, the Polish Radio and the Warsaw Autumn. From 2008 he works as the music director of the Teatr Nowy in Warsaw. He is the author of music scores for plays by Krzysztof Warlikowski, Piotr Cieślak, Paweł Łysak, Grzegorz Jarzyna and also films by Małgorzata Szumowska, Mariusz Treliński, Andrzej Wajda and Jerzy Skolimowski. Paweł Mykietyn is the winner of the Paszport Polityki (2000) and has been presented with the Order of Polonia Restitua.

This September, at the 40th edition of the Gdynia Film Festival, the composer received an award for his music to the film “11 minutes” directed by Jerzy Skolimowski. A month later he won the special award of the monthly “Teatr” for his “Magic Mountain” score and other theatrical plays. The event of the year turned out to be the opening of the new headquarters of the National Symphony Orchestra of the Polish Radio in Katowice. The honorary award was presented to Maestro Stanisław Skrowaczeski. The winners chosen by the polish music industry were presented with figurines designed by Adam Myjak. The awards in the category of Personality of the Year and the Honorary Award came also with prizes sponsored by the Associations of Performance Artists STOART and the Artist Association ZAiKS.

We wholeheartedly congratulate Paweł Mykietyn and all the other winners!
