  • Dance Karaoke transfers the idea of karaoke into dance. We ask passers-by, residents of the city to pick a song of their choice and dance in front of our camera as the spirit moves them. The dancers wearing pink sandals and black gloves dance in their own surrounding, – their home, their office, in the street – wherever we meet them. The footage is mastered; dance video clips are produced and presented in a club or theatre event hosted by a DJ. Members of the audience pick the clips to which they would like to dance. The clips are projected onto a big screen in front of a dance floor that allows more than one dancer at a time. Just as the dancers on the screen, the dancers on the dance floor slip into pink sandals and gloves.

Dance Karaoke revitalizes the old tradition of dancing together by using the setting of the entertainment industry. dance karaoke reflects the attitude of our celebrity cult generation and caricatures the zeitgeisty phenomenon of casting shows.

The guests not only slip into somebody else’s shoes, they have the opportunity to find out how it feels to move like somebody else. They mirror the dancer’s movements like in a simple dance therapy setting.

This event is made possible by INTPA - INTERNATIONAL NET FOR DANCE AND PERFORMANCE AUSTRIA of Tanzquartier Wien with funds by BKA and BMEIA

Performance is a part of exhibition LET'S DANCE
